Prescriptions
Ordering a Repeat Prescription
Regardless of the method you use to request your prescription please allow 2 working days for us to process it. Make sure you plan ahead if you are going on holiday or there is a bank holiday coming up.
You must name the exact medication(s) you require.
If you have a blister pack please request your new medication 7 to 8 days before you are due to run out so the pharmacy has time to put the blister pack together.
If you request your prescription too soon we may reject it as we cannot allow patients to stockpile their medication. We recommend that you submit your request 5 days before you are due to run out.
We do not accept repeat prescription requests over the phone.
When you order a prescription online, you can have it sent electronically to a pharmacy of your choice. This is called a nomination.
You can order your repeat prescription in one of the following ways:
We recommend using the NHS App if you are able.
The NHS App
Order repeat prescriptions via the NHS App or NHS website, and have them sent to a pharmacy of your choice.
Completing a medical request online
You can contact us online to order your repeat prescription.
Your Local Pharmacy
Pharmacy Ordering / Collection Service
Pharmacies offer a prescription collection service from our practice.
Your pharmacy can also order your medication on your behalf. This saves you time and unnecessary visits to the practice. Please contact the pharmacy of your choice for more information if you wish to use this service.

Oral Contraception Request
If you are currently using an oral contraception medicine ("the pill") and need a new prescription please complete a Contraceptive Repeat Prescription Request.
Request a contraceptive prescription
We must have a recent blood pressure reading before issuing the prescription. If you cannot check your blood pressure elsewhere please come into the surgery to use the machine in reception.
Visit the Patient Info website to find out more about the oral contraceptive pill and the importance of having an up to date blood pressure reading.
Starting the contraceptive pill
If you are wanting to start on the contraceptive pill for the first time please contact us online detailing your request.
Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions
Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).
The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
When going abroad you can take your NHS medications with you.
Please visit the NHS website for the latest Prescription Charges
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

Reduce Medicines Waste
Everyone has a part to play to reduce medicines waste
If everyone makes small changes then together we can make a massive difference to reducing medicines waste and looking after our NHS.
Learn how you can play your part
Talk about your medicines
- You can ask your pharmacist to book you a review or ask your GP practice to book you an appointment with their practice pharmacist
- Your doctor needs to know if you are not taking any of your medicines, or if you are experiencing unexpected side-effects
Check what medicines you have at home before you order more
- Remember only order more medicine if you have less than two weeks supply left at home.
Remember, don’t tick it if you don't need it
- There is no need to worry, the item will not disappear from your repeat prescription. It will still be there next time you need to order your medication
Check your medicines before you leave the pharmacy
- Let’s all do our bit by opening our prescription bags while we are still inside the pharmacy. You can return any unwanted medicines to the pharmacist
