Duty Doctor (for urgent and emergency appointments)

For When You Have An Urgent Medical Problem

To make it easier for you to get the right help when you need it urgently, we are offering a Duty Doctor Service in this practice. Duty Doctor is in place from 8am to 6:30pm, Monday to Friday.

When you phone with an urgent problem, the Duty Doctor will ring you back within 2 hours and will decide the best way to help you. The doctor may:

  • Give you advice straight away over the phone
  • Arrange for you to come into the practice to see a doctor or nurse or other member of staff
  • Arrange for a home visit if you are not well enough to come to the surgery and the doctor thinks you need to be seen
  • Direct you towards other services which can help

If you need urgent medical advice for you or someone you care for, please call the practice on our usual number and ask the reception team about speaking to the Duty Doctor. They will ask you a few questions and if they decide the duty doctor is the right person to help they will arrange for them to call you back within 2 hours.

This service offers you quick access to your GP practice, where they know you and have your full medical record. We recommend this service instead of going to A&E.

Home Visits

Home visits are only available for patients who are housebound because of illness or disability or are currently too unwell to attend the surgery.

To request a home visit please complete an online request on behalf of the patient. You can do this as a guest, or you can create an account and add someone else. If you complete a request by 10am we will contact you before 1pm and arrange a visit if medically necessary.

If the patient is very unwell and requires attention within the hour, please call reception on 020 8525 2980 or 111/999.

We keep a register of patients who are chronically housebound and aim to visit them at least twice a year.

Our health care assistant Brian and our nurse Monica also do home visits when appropriate.

Change or Cancel an Appointment

Please give us as much notice as possible so we can offer your appointment to someone else.

To cancel your appointment:

  1. Use your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)
  2. Phone us on 020 8525 2980

Cancellations notified less than 30 minutes before the appointment time will be recorded as failure to attend (DNA).

Chaperones

All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any consultation, examination or procedure where they feel one is required.

The chaperone may be a family member or friend.  On occasions you may prefer a formal chaperone to be present, i.e. a trained member of staff.

Wherever possible we would ask you to make this request at the time of booking so that arrangements can be made and your appointment is not delayed in any way. Where this is not possible we will endeavour to provide a formal chaperone at the time of request. However, occasionally it may be necessary to reschedule your appointment. Your healthcare professional may also require a chaperone to be present for certain consultations in accordance with our chaperone policy.
